Sometimes I felt spiritually dried. My spirit did not seem to sense God's presence. I did not ask God to revealed to me as I am not used to doing that.

However, during Wednesday morning devotion, when I told my colleagues about how I witnessed God preserved a man's life, I could not help but kept tearing as I shared. This is because I have seen how God works in this young man who is 21 year old. After hearing the sharing, my colleague said this indeed was a God's divine appointment that I did the home visit on tuesday evening. It was God who sent me there, to talk to this young man to stop him from doing silly thing. I arranged the home visit only through his mother. I was not informed by any officer or his aunt that I must do the home visit. On that day, the young man had already prepared two letters, one for his mother and the other for his girlfriend. Another amazing thing was, I did not have the intention to bring my new bible, which was given to me by my mentor. However, I handed the bible to this young man as he did not mind reading the bible. During the sharing, I encouraged him to read it in order to understand who this God is.

On Wednesday afternoon, another client told me that she started to read the English bible on her own. She realised she could not solve her marital problem by her own wisdom. Interestingly, she (a China National) humbled herself and wanted to find help from God. She prayed to God and finally she got to attend a church a few times. She sensed that Christians are different from people of different faiths. She mentioned before she left the centre that "the more she reads the bible, the more she believes in what it says." This reminded me of Jesus quote "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." (John 14:6). She requestd a Chinise bible from me before she left.

Today when talking to the 3rd client on the phone, she told me she finally realised no man could help her overcome her problem. She had chosen to turn to God and attended church service regularly. She started to get to know this God. She was feeling spiritually weak for past few days and had not been reading the bible or had devotion. However, she confessed that today's call was God planned so that she was encouraged and she gave glory to God.

I cannot help but to share these three events that happened on Tuesday, Wednesday and today. God has revealed His love and grace to the people whom he loves.

Lord, help me to trust in you at all times. Do not let my heart be troubled.

Is My Sacrfice Living?

"Abraham build an altar... and he bound Isaac his son and laid him on the altar... " (Genesis 22:9)
This event is a picture of the mistake we make in thinking that the ultimate God wants of us is the sacrifice of death. What God wants is the sacrifice through death which enables us to do what Jesus did, that is, sacrifice our lives. Not - "Lord, I am ready to go with you... to death" (Luke 22:33). But - "I am willing to be identified with your death so that I may sacrifice my life to God."

We seem to think that God wants us to give up things. God purified Abraham from his error, and the same process is at work in our lives. God never tell us to give up things just for the sake of giving them up, but He tells us to give them up for the sake of the only thing worth having, namely, life with Himself. It is a matter of loosening the things that hold back our lives. These things are loosened immediately by identification with the death of Jesus. Then we enter into a relationship with God whereby we may sacrifice our lives to Him.

It is of no value to God to give Him your life for death. He wants you to be a "living sacrifice" - to let Him have all your strengths that have been saved and sanctified through Jesus (Romans 12:1). This is what is acceptable to God.

bible study - goodness

i am just wondering what's diff bet kindness and goodness after we hv done the bible study.
even the youngest one in the yf asked abt this Qn.
well, they are diff and i'll think abt it and figure out the diff.

at the end of the bs session, pam left these 2 Qns for us to think about for the new week:
1. Be aware of God's goodness in our lives
2. How can goodness be shown to others through us?

God has shown his goodness to us, hence we ought to show goodness to others.
We shall not be so selfish or self centred, just keep God's goodness and mercy to ourselves.
we can share the things that we have with others.

the time we have, the wisdom we have, the talents we have, the life that we are living ... come from God, so spend your time by listening to your friend, help your friend/family/relatives, visit the needy ones, help your friend in their studies when necessary, give a portion of your allowance to help the poor ...

whenever there is opportunity to show goodness to others, dont hesitate ...

A Prayer:

Dear Lord, I thank you for this day. I thank You for my being able to see and to hear this morning. I'm blessed because You are a forgiving God and an understanding God. You have done so much for me and You keep on blessing me. Forgive me this day for everything I have done, said or thought that was not pleasing to you. I ask now for Your forgiveness.

Please keep me safe from all danger and harm. Help me to start this day with a new attitude and plenty of gratitude. Let me make the best of each and every day to clear my mind so that I can hear from You.

Please broaden my mind that I can accept all things.

Let me not whine and whimper over things I have no control over. Let me continue to see sin through God's eyes and acknowledge it as evil. And when I sin, let me repent, and confess with my mouth my wrongdoing, and receive the forgiveness of God.

And when this world closes in on me, let me remember Jesus' example -- to slip away and find a quiet place to pray. It's the best response when I'm pushed beyond my limits. I know that when I can't pray, You listen to my heart. Continue to use me to do Your will.

Continue to bless me that I may be a blessing to others. Keep me strong that I may help the weak. Keep me uplifted that I may have words of encouragement for others. I pray for those who are lost and can't find their way. I pray for those who are misjudged and misunderstood. I pray for those who don't know You intimately. I pray for those who don't believe. But I thank you that I believe.

I believe that God changes people and God changes things. I pray for all my sisters and brothers. For each and every family member in their households. I pray for peace, love and joy in their homes that they are out of debt and all their needs are met.

I pray that everyone who reads this knows there is no problem, circumstance, or situation greater than God. Every battle is in Your hands for You to fight. I pray that these words be received into the hearts of every eye that sees them and every mouth that confesses them willingly..

(because this blog needs to be revived, i changed the picture in the bg to make it seem all new and improved! haha. anyway, it's one of the nicest pictures i took in Buru during a sunrise)

Firstly, my apologies for not blogging here in a long while.

Secondly, would just like to thank God for blessing and you guys for praying for the Buru Team. Buru was indeed a wonderful experience, and personally, a good retreat (and pre-ADVANCE)... i think we will work something out with our team soon so we can prepare a good proper presentation (: In the meantime, please do continue to pray for Buru, because throughout the month of June, there will be a total of 7 teams going down (batch by batch) to continue the mission work.

Thirdly, would just like to say WELL DONE to everybody for the wonderful games played yesterday! I had fun! (even though we lost... AGAIN hahaha but it was a very very close and exciting fight aye?) And also a huge thank you to tiffany and grace for coordinating the matches and logistics and also the bbq after that! Even though bbq turnout was small, it was nice to see people helping one another, laughing and fighting to smear charcoal powder on one another over the fire, people chilling out by the pool and just interacting and having fun (:

Lastly, I have something to share... during the bbq ytd, i was talking to two others and our conversation drifted to service and (in fact, while) studying / working. There was a slight disagreement regarding how much we ought to be studying, why we are studying and the likes, while revolving around a life of service. There was no conclusion, but i went back home feeling utterly terrible and confused because what was presented to me contradicted what I have been taught and have grown to embrace. And even though i did continue to discuss with one of them online after that, I was still feeling unsure and basically very very exhausted (physically and mentally) and weary about the future. Went to sleep after a quick prayer for peace and did not read the bible or my daily bread because i was zonking out.

This morning, still feeling confused, i took out my bible and my daily bread and flipped to June 11, Monday's article. Passage was taken from Psalm 91:9-16

If you make the Most High your dwelling-
even the Lord, who is my refude-
then no harm will befall you,
no disaster will come near your tent.
For he will command his angels concerning you
to guard you in all your ways;
they will lift you up in their hands,
so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.
You will tread upon the lion and the cobra;
you will trample the great lion and the serpent.
"Because he loves me," says the Lord, "I will rescue him;
I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name.
He will call upon me, and I will answer him;
I will be with him in trouble,
I will deliver him and honor him.
With long life will I satisfy him,
and show him my salvation."

I remembered that yesterday, while walking out of FMSS, i saw a verse (which i cant remember now) beside the school gates, and it was either the exact same verse, or the message it was bringing across was the same. And this particular commentary from the daily bread struck me "The future can be a scary place. The unknown can be overwhelming, especially when the known has so many struggles. That's why we need to trust in what God has promised."

I started to think, have I really depended on my own ability so much that I tend to constantly overlook the fact that my strength and capabilites come from God?

Thinking that a new term in uni in a demanding course will require alot of time, effort, hardwork and focus, I was all ready to throw myself 100%, even 110%, into a new mugger life (which unlike what many people think, I have not been leading in my years of studying so far), sacrificing and forgoing and ceasing all other aspects of life be it service in church, sports and cca, even the occasional meaningless fun with people i love. But after reading this passage, what came to me instead was that my life is in God's hands! My friend (during bbq) was right, whether or not I am going to do well does not depend solely on how much effort I was going to put in, but whether or not God deems it more important than anything else, that I do well (in His greater plan). Moreover, whether or not I am going to do well does not even mean anything as compared to whether or not I was going to further His kingdom during my time on earth. What didn't make sense to me last night slowly begun to make sense as i allowed God's Word to search my heart and my thoughts.

Our BS yesterday was so timely - our lives have become far too self-centred. In everything we do, we want to seek out an end that will eventually benefit ourselves.. even though i had just spent time preparing for, and leading BS, i had once again forgotten how to lead a God-centred life that very same night. If my studying was for God, i don't think He'd want me to find confusion in contemplating this conflict of interests - whether or not i'd have time to serve while studying. The fact is, God wants us to strike a good balance in everthing we do, for HIM, not for ourselves.

So with that, I'd just like to say thank you to my friends for allowing God to speak through you guys, and also shout out an encouragement to anyone who may be facing anything similar to this - God is in control! We just got to direct our paths to Him.

We've got Lydia (1st), Jiaxin (8th), Alicia (15th), Elin (26th) and Grace (28th). Don't worry, we won't throw you into the pool. Right?

Besides all the exciting events happening in june hols,
let's not forget to hunger and thirst for God... and get ourselves back on the right track of our faith journey with God. Let God's words dwell in our hearts that I might not sin against Him...

I am so excited again cos God is so real in my life and I experience his goodness last Sunday.
I had a very refreshing and inspiring worship experience. This has been something I wanted for so long... God has answered prayer ... and God is really good ...
I wanna hunger for God and let revival start in me first ...
i wanna give thank to Him who has saved me.
i wanna glorify Him thru what i say and do .
i wanna live for Him ... not by my own strength,
but trusting Him and rely only on Him.

But let's talk about the not so exciting one first: this Sunday service (special Chinese-English combined service) starts at 10am. If you forget and come at 9am, please go across the street and have some prata. After the service, there is this CD thing that all are supposed to stay back and listen.

Next Sunday 10th June is the exciting one. We've got programs line up for you for the whole day, from morning till night. What are we going to do? Morning: 9am service followed by fellowship (new series of BS starting that day); afternoon: captain's ball match; night: BBQ. Make sure you don't miss it. :D

- demin made an outstanding debut. He put his body on the line, blocking out shots from all directions; definitely made his presence count.

- 2 goal naomi showed the mark of a striker and was unfortunate not to add to her goal tally.

- man of the day vincent lee had a quiet game. seems like the muscles he developed during commando training are slowly turning into the form of efff-ehhhh-teee. hope he will not lose his passion for the game when he returns this november.

no training for upcoming 2 weeks due to chinese new year. think twice before u stuff the bak kwa into your mouth, bcos u'll need to work doubly hard to shed those fats off at the next training...

Many blessings from God this year!!!

2006 is going to end soon. I gonna thank God for ub5 and the many nice pple we hv met and known in the yf. pple like grace & angela, jenny &amp;amp;amp; jamie, kel & joanna & janice, eunice & eugene, plus all wonderful yfers in yf or syf who have come into my life.
though ub5 was over, but its spirit will not die lor, it will cont to move ppl to love God and to love others as loving ourselves. and i believe we pple are trying to trust God to live a holy and righteous life and to care for others. i believe we oso trust God to help us in our prayer life... etc cos we hv seen His goodness and faithfulness.

rem the song ('seek ye first') led by jiaxin during the message 2 of ub5 camp. lets us all seek first His kingdom and His righteouness (Matt 6:33) so tt His goodness will be reflected in our lives, and pple ard us will know God thru us. i pray we fix our eyes on Jesus, to seek His will to be done in our lives when we nd to decide the course we gonna take in the uni, our career or our other concerns.

may this Christmas be a diff Christmas for all of us, and we will not take his salvation for granted. may we lead others into God's kingdom too so tt we will see the lost (incl all our loved ones) to be with God. they too will experience the love, joy and peace of God.

Thoughts on reading REVELATION

If we love God, spend time with Him just like we are in love with someone, we will definitely want to spend time with him or her. We do not want to miss any opportunity to see him or her, or to talk to him or her.

I am disciplining myself to read 1 chapter of REVELATION everyday despite the busy schedule. I ask God to help me because I cannot do it with my strength. My dear brothers and sisters are spending time with God as well because they love Him.

A quiz

Chapter 1:
Is this book a revelation, prophecy, or a letter?
Where was John when he wrote this book?
What did John see?
What was he asked to do?
What is the purpose of reading this book?

Chapter 2-3:
How many churches were there?
Were there praises or rebukes or nothing from the Lord to the churches?
How many time this line had occurred "He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches"?

My reflection - I have similar experience as the churches then in the minor Asia. As I read about the church in Ephesus, I realize I have forsaken the first love. I din spent quality time with God. Most of the time, I am in a rush, and just say "Hi" to God and start the day without God. Sometimes I feel bored or I don’t feel like meeting God. I am truly remorseful. I want to repent and go deep in the fellowship with God once again.

Chapter 4-5:
What did John see in the heaven?
Who was the ONE that seated on the throne?
Who was the ONE who opened the scroll? Why?
Who is taking control of the human history? Who is He?

Just some thoughts and put it down to help me to remember.

halo. aldersgate methodist church has invited us to their youth evangelistic event held this sat. Basically, they'll be screening 'Green Grass', a movie about the life testimony of Pastor Glenn Lim from Church of Our Saviour. They've offered us limited tix, meaning first come first serve =) Other than to take a look at the youth ministry of AMC, you can also take this chance to invite your prebelieving frens to the event. I've personally heard him share his testimony b4, of how he being a professional musician in his youth, pursued after a hedonistic lifestyle and was even involved in drug consumption and trafficking. He was being caught by the police, and... (no spoilers =p). The series of events became the turning pt of his life, when he gave his life to God. Today he is the youth pastor of church of our saviour and a active youth ambassador reaching out to the youths. With all the hype on recent movie THE DA VINCI CODE based on the even less recent novel THE DA VINCI CODE by dan brown, i'm sure many of us are wondering what exactly is true and not true in the novel and the movie.. what with the national council of churches pushing for a ban on the movie, and the catholic church calling for a boycott - what exactly has dan brown whipped up that has caused such reactions??

for those who have read the book and/or watched the movie, you might be questioning certain "facts" or ideas that were put across to readers and audience..

or for some, even, your non-christian friends may be bombarding you with questions regarding our Saviour Jesus Christ, the bible, our faith .. etc

Please remember the PSLE talk in your prayer.

1) Pray for the smooth running of the event and the speaker for that day--auntie ya zuan. Pray that God use her to deliver contents that are useful to the participants.

2) Pray that God use us as instruments as we promote the year end camp to the parents and youths attending the talk. Pray that we'll be proactive in reaching out to them and that we have the right attitude and a heart for the youths as we get involved in the event.

3) Pray for the committee (yiuming, henry and zhihui) that they'll constantly seek God's guidance with the right attitude and coordinate and communicate well with auntie ya zuan.

4) Pray that more parents and psixers know about this talk and come this Sat. So far, we only have 1/4 of the expected number. And most importantly, pray that God touch the youths and parents' hearts so that people will come for our year end camp and pray that God bless the works of the hands of those who love Him.

5) Pray for yourself. Ways that you can be involved: ushering, befriend the youths, registration, general logistics, giving out pamphlets, making the signs to direct participants to the venue, spread the news, etc. We need you. This sunday we'll have a very special programme. We're going to visit a SYNAGOGUE. Find out what that means if you're dunno haha. and if u're lazy...well that just gives u a greater reason to come this Sunday. As this is a once in a life time experience (how many of you have been invited to visit a SYNAGOGUE? There's only one in Singapore btw!), I urge you not to oversleep and come join us for worship and then the visit.

The whole trip will only end at around 2.3o pm (latest 3pm). Worrying that you can't fininsh your weekend HW? Well, Good News! Monday is a holiday. (Labour Day!) However, this should not give u reason to party the whole day away. Therefore, I seek your trust in informing your parents (for those 18 & below...) that this trip will end latest at 3pm, and that wherever you go after 3pm is not the YF Committee's responsibility. I don't want to have parents calling me at 7pm, 8pm asking me where their sons/daughters are! I apologize for not having a consent form done in time to be distributed but as brothers and sisters of Christ, I think I should be able to trust you all to perform this simple task effortlessly and save the Church unnecessary trouble.

The Dress Code by the way:

NO Slippers/Sandals!
NO miniskirts!
NO shorts/bermudas!
NO provocative messages on your tops!

This is a stern warning. I would NOT allow u to go with us if u're dressed in any of the above, and this goes for all ages.

The Story of Joan

Hey I'm not sure if any of you here read yesterday's (sunday's) newspaper Life Section about this girl by the name of Joan Chan Shu Fang. She's from the same batch as yiu ming and I in RJC, though we didn't really know her back then. If you haven't read about her, she was diagnosed with tongue cancer soon after her A Levels Examinations. She's at her terminal stage now, at the age of 20. I found her blog and I would like to share it here with all of you, with her permission of course.

I hope that by reading her blog you would be inspired to look a life with a different perspective.
I hope that by reading her blog, you'll be touched by what some people of our age are going through and how fortunate we are to be healthy and strong.
I hope that by reading her blog, you'll be motivated to keep faith in this Lord, who has promised and IS still fulfilling the promise.... "..neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord." (Romans 8:38-39)
I hope that by reading her blog, you'll be empowered to make full use of every moment in your life for the service of our Lord, because if a dying girl can decide to do so, why can't we?
I hope that by reading her blog, you'll be filled with the compassion and power of the spirit, and in one tongue together with her many many friends in Singapore and overseas, pray for a miracle to happen, pray for Joan's recovery.

Joan is now taken out of ICU because the medicine and treatment is not working anymore. The only way for her to live is if God is moved and a miracle happens. So financial donations would not be of much help.

By the way, when i Sms-ed her asking if i could do this on our YF blog, i was honestly quite scared. Coz it was the first time i sms-ed her, plus we never knew each other... n so naturally i felt it was quite a big request for a stranger to ask if he could publicize someone's else personal diary. I expected her to ignore me, or reply 'What's your problem? Can u be more sensitive?', or perhaps even blame the friend who gave me her number.

But her reply was....

Maundy Thursday Service

This year I attended the Maundy Thursday Service at Seng Kang Methodist Church. I needed to finish my assignment asap and I thought of Seng Kang MC which is nearer to my house. It was quite a special and meaningful service for me. We were given a time for prayer and reflection at the end of the service. Believers are encouraged to come forward to the stage, kneel before the Lord Jesus to pray and to meditate. In fact many believers went forward. Pastors and church leaders were praying for them. It's a heartening moment to see people praying for one another. The Holy Spirit is working and flowing among them. What a special moment. People were just focused in praying for the brothers and sisters. Guo Wei and I went forward too, we experienced the warmth and love of God that flow through us. We received prayer and ministry from them. It's such an unexpected moment for both of us and other believers to get close to God, to kneel before Him, and let his love touches us once again. May all of us experience a different and meaningful holy week this year. And we desire to obey Him and to deny ourselves, carry our cross daily and follow Him.

The Prodigal Son

... He was going home. He was going home a changed man. Not demanding that he get what he deserved, but willing to tkae whatever he could get. "Give me" had been replaced with "help me" and his defiance had been replaced with repentance.

He came asking for everything with nothing to give in return. He had no money. He had no excuses.

And he had no idea how much his father had missed him.

He had no idea the number of times his father had paused between chores to look out the front gate for his son. The boy had no idea the number of times his father had awakened from restless sleep, gone into the son's room, and sat on the boy's bed. And the the son would have never believed the hours the father had set on the porch next to the empty rocking chair, looking, longing to see that familiar figure, that stride, that face.

As the boy came around the bend that led up to his house, he rehearsed his speech one more time. "Father , I have sinned against heaven and against you."

He approached the gate and placed his hand on the latch. He began to lift it, then he paused. His plan to go home suddenly seemed silly. "what's the use?" he heard himself asking himself. "what chance do I have?" He ducked, turned around and began to walk away.

Then he heard the footsteps. He heard the slap, slap, slap of sandals. Someone was running. He didn't turn to look. It's probably a servant coming to chase me away or my big brother wanting to know what I"m doing back home. He began to leave.

But the voice he heard was not the voice of a servant nor the voice of his brother; it was the voice of his father.

"Son!"

"Father?"

He turned to open the gate, but the father already had. The son looked at his father standing at the entrance. Tears glistened on his cheeks as arms stretched from east to west inviting the son to come home.

"Father, I have sinned." The words were muffled as the boy buried his face in his father's shoulder. The two wept. For a forever they stood at the gate intertwined as one. Words were unnecessary. Repentance had been made, forgiveness had been given.

The boy was home.

If there is a scene in the story that deserves to be framed, it's the one of the father's outstretched hands. His tears are moving. His smile is stirring. But his hands call us home. Imagine those hands. Strong fingers. Palms wrinkled with lifelines. Stretching open like a wide gate, leaving entrance as the only option.

When Jesus told this parable of the loving father, I wonder, did he use his hands? When he got to this point in the story, did he open his arms to illustrate the point?

Did he perceive the thoughts of those in the audience who were thinking, "I could never go home. Not after my life"? Did he see a housewife look at the ground and a businessman shake his head as if to say, "I can't start over. I've made too big a mess?" And did he open his arms even wider as if to say, "Yes, Yes YOU CAN! YOU can come home!" ?

Whether he did that day or not, I don't know. But I know that he did later. He later stretched his hands as open as he could. He forced his arms so wide apart that it hurt. And to prove that those arms would never fold and those hands would never close, he had them nailed open.

Today dialogue session

About the 9am praise & worship service changes to an English service. It is actually not a pure English service cos the 25 mins worship singing still bilingual. The only difference is we hv English sermons every Sunday.

Few young people voiced their opinions, perhaps others hv reasons for not saying their view. I actually felt touched when someone said what matters most is, a good speaker whether be it chinese or english speaking, delivers gd message. This is the principle that we always hold on to. Our congregation has grown up and is maturing. They desire good sermon which help them to grow in faith. Glad to see that they are thinking and reflecting christians. We want to hv gd sermon so that we can be ministered and to live the faith and walk the talk.

During the session, people asked questions like why not remains as bilingual service. Sometimes our young people who hv frens come from foreign land, feel more comfortable with mandarin. And they will follow our youths to attend youth group after service.

One concern brought up, our congregation is not committed to bring their non-christian friends to church. Difficulties they face, for example, their fren's parent does not allow them to go church; their friends are English speaking. If we notice, there are many English speaking churches around Dover. There isnt a lack of worship place.

A voice from one of the parents, mentioned dat since the church has no clear strategy now, perhaps we shall consider to wait upon the Lord and seek His will. There isnt any concrete strategy presented to the congregation during service.

Finally, LCEC chairman concluded dat church members submit to the church leaders' decision.

Let's pray for the church. The church is the body of Christ, and we are the church. Our church is unique, the culture is unique as well. We hv people from all age groups, and we hv a close bonding as a big family. It is the love and fellowship that keep people stay.

Let's prayerfully seek God to guide and show us His will for the 9am praise & worship service. Pray dat more intercessors will participate in the work of God's Kingdom.

Are you in the team working alongside with God? Are you considering to be an intercessor for the church, to pray for clear strategy and direction of the church?

Dear yfers & syfers,

This Sunday, we will be holding a dialogue session. The topic will be about changing our 9am worship service to a English service. We will have Pastor Louis, our LCEC chairman YuanHsin, music and worship ministry chair person WuMei in the panel to answer your questions.

It is an important for all of you to take part in this discussion because you are the congregation affected by this decision. You should be convinced and then get involved to make this change a fruitful one.

I'd like to encourage you to write down your questions before you come. You can ask questions like: Why change? Why not remain? What is the impact? What about our neighbour Aldersgate? Are we competing with them? What is next after this change? Will we have English bulletin, English Sunday school, Bible class and cell group? Are we encouraging English speaking adults to join us? You can give your opinions to some of the questions above. You can also give suggestions like how can we reorganize our resources? How can you contribute?

Some adults from Chinese service would like to join us in this discussion but they hesitated because the announcement in the bulletin is not clear. Actually, any church member can come for this discussion, not just yfers and syfers. So, please help to invite your parents if they are also our church members.

I had a wonderful lunch fellowship with a few brothers and sisters yesterday. The conservation surrounds what happens to our church recently. One of the brother expressed concern that, due to the recent events, misunderstandings and criticisms may make our serving more painful and difficult; and hence, he has given us suggestions.

I am thankful that the Lord has prepared for us true friends who care and think ahead for us. That is true love: to run ahead of people you love and help to clear the obstacles in their way. Just like Christ who has gone ahead of us and prepared for us the way to eternal life. He loves us so much that He did it with His flesh and blood.

So then, who or what shall we fear? The LORD is my light and my salvation, whom shall I fear?

Dear Lord, thank you for your love and the friends whom you have placed beside us. Please strengthen us. Watch over us so that we will do nothing wrong. Help us to stand firm and serve with clear conscience. Give me the wisdom and love I need in order to lead my flock to higher ground.

When we simply look back and see what God has done in the church, and start to count the blessings from God, we are amazed. We are thankful to Him. God is with us. Do you believe? Do you know He is faithful and hearing our prayers.

Remember the goals of the church for this year: 1. live a prayerful life, 2. evangelise to the non-believers in our circle of life, 3. follow up or building up people or mentoring so-called. We pray for revival in the beginning of the year, praying that God send people to us, God is faithful, He has brought 5 pple in our midst. They have been worshipping with us, and we have fellowship together. Thank you Lord ^_^

These people are angela (grace's sister), janice (kelvin's friend), yee shuang and her mom, emily tan and evelyn...we are glad that God answers prayers...

Being Forgotten

Well, the short "holiday" is over. Just like to post something to drive your blues away. Something I encoutered last week.

Saw an Indian boy crying yesterday in a shop near my office. His mom has just picked him up after school. While walking past the shops, his mother, apparently distracted by large variety of goodies on display, has totally forgotten about her son. After a few quick turns, this boy could not catch up and lost sight of his mom. So, he started crying. A kind shop keeper ran out to help him look for his mother. Fortunately, there wasn't many Indians in the area and it was not difficult to spot a lone woman carrying a primary school bag. Funny. People can be so forgetful.

The feeling of being forgotten must be quite frightening for a small kid. Even for adult, it is quite depressing.

"Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? Yet not one of them is forgotten by God. Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Don't be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows." Luke 12:6-7

It'll be like part 2 of the bible study we had last month where u guys had a barrage of questions to ask. So if u happen to accidentally come on this blog while u're checking your friend's frienster (hmm?) /blog/photobucket etc etc.... maybe u might wanna take some time before you sleep to think about these 2 issues... and prepare yourself to understand more (and ask more) tomorrow during BIBLE STUDY 2.

Heyy, my dear brothers and sisters in Christ,

Would like to share this verse with all of you.

"Therefore, my dear brothers, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain."

This verse has been a great comfort to me. God has a purpose for our lives. He has put us together just like our different body parts of a whole body, God's purpose is to build up His people. God has given us different talents, some are very encouraging, some are able to comfort others, some are good at designing, some are good at ministering God's words, some are cheerful and bring joy to others, some are quiet and give good support and presence to the needy ones, some are very good be-frienders. there are many many more talents and gifts. do we bother to find out our talents and gifts so that we are also serving God and His people?

Our life reflects the goodness of God so that others may see the Father through our lives and praise the Father in heaven (Matt 5:16).

Will be glad to see you in church every sunday to worship God together.
Come prepare with a humble heart and attitude
Encourage one another and love one another
Bring along your bible whenever you come to church okie, "dun let it collect dust"(... sob ... sob .. nobody likes me anymore)

Journeying with Christ to the Cross

I am wondering how is everyone spiritual journey with the Lord Jesus now. I've been using some devotional materials to help me thinking about the life and ministry of Jesus Christ. Despite my busy schedule, I read the purple booklet "Journeying with Christ to the Cross" in the morning before I start my day. Read either "Everyday with Jesus" or "Upper Room" at night. I wanna tell you how much I am touched as I read His Words with an attitude expecting God to speak to me, I begin to see that God wanna me to adopt a humble attitude towards people. He shows me the message that it is my HEART that matters most. No point in performing all kinda religious ritual, yet my heart is far away from Him.

When we fast & pray, give tithing and do charity, remember to also demonstrate justice, mercy and faithfulness to others (Matt 23:23).

I wanna share with you this song that has been helping me when I am upset and distracted.

Hi to clear all the confusion, we'll be having a special programme this sunday!

DENOMINATIONS

I'm not sure about you guys, but I get really lost when my non christian friends question me abt the concept of 'denominations'...
Why are there denominations in Christianity?
Which is the 'right' one?
How many denominations are there in Singapore? etc etc etc.....

Ever been faced with these questions? And out of desperation you point to the sky n say 'Hey what's that?!' and the next moment, POOF!, you've disappeared? Or perhaps, you never heard of this word before?! Heard of it but never thought of it?? Thought of it but never heard of it? (huh?!)

Anyhow, come this Sunday to be enlightened and kick off your March Holidays with great fun. We are fortunate to have invited Mr Tan Khey Cheow, a Lay leader and Local preacher of Changi Methodist Church, to attend to us.

What you need to know/bring:

1) We'll be going out of church at some point(ok la...something like amazing race) so bring extra clothes (esp those wearing long pants/skirt for service), sufficient water, EZ link card and minimum of $15. Don't worry there won't be a UB4-style slide-down-the-Jurong-Water-Park-Slide type of game...haha.
2) Tell your parents you'll be eating lunch out and the whole event will end at latest 3.30pm, back at Fairfield.

I believe your grp daoshi/leader has contacted you guys by now about this Sunday's activity. If you still have any queries, pls call me (zhixuan la!) at 97634072. For those who have confirmed with your grp daoshi/leader, pls make an effort to honour your word for we have promised Mr Tan a minimum number of youths and we are going to subsidize the amount you need to pay. For those who have not, DO COME!! It'll be fun and enriching.

We all know about the three wise men that brought gifts to baby Jesus 2,000 years ago. Much folklore and myth surround the event. Children and adults re-enact this great event every December.

But if u check the BOOK to investigate, you'll come to the realisation that there really isn't any mention of how many wise men came to visit Jesus! Why 3? Why not 4 , 5 , or even a 100?? A more thorough research into this event and you'll realize that the story of 'Three wise men' was a conclusion inferred from the fact that 3 precious gifts were given to Jesus and thus logically, there should be 3 men!!

What if today i tell you about an elusive fourth wise man? Someone who spent his life searching for Jesus to do what his 3 predecessors have done on Silent Night--present gifts to the King. Someone who eventually FOUND Christ at the other extreme end of Christ's life. Someone who really understood and appreciated Matthew 25:37-40 (Check it up)! :)

We'll be hearing his story (HISTORY? umm...) this Sunday for YF.

Be holy, just as God is holy. (1 Peter 1:15-16)

A simple statement, a profound message, and an impossible mission?

I mean... it's easy to be kind, it's easy to be loving... these are usually one off acts aren't they? I might never have been bothered with the plight of the poor, but all of a sudden one day I'm touched by this poor boy running down the streets...and I buy him a meal...and i'm 'kind'. So too is it with many positive attributes right? esp in the eyes of our society..

"It usually takes only an act of _______ (try it urself!) to be ______ ."

But can we say that for holiness? Let's see..."It usually takes only an act of holiness to be holy". Hmm...sounds wrong ya? But why? Why is it so hard to be "holy"? Why is the essence of holiness so different from that of other positive qualities?? Must we be 24/7 holy to be considered holy? and If so, how is that possible?! And just as you are being compounded with questions abt the mystery of holiness....our dear God whispers into your heart "Hey you know, i'm not just holy. I'm HOLY,HOLY,HOLY (Book of Revelations)." Well done! So much for being a God that i can cast my burdens on!!

But surely, blaming God for our failures to meet up to His standards can't be right can it? Perhaps we need to take a few steps back and look deeply into the word "holiness" afresh, discover once again frm God's Words what it means to us and together as a YF, realise that it is within our grasp. So come, take up the challenge, claim the Truth for yourself, join us for....

Here's a flash back at what we discuss last sunday. :) hope it helps....

Guide for Quiet Time

1. Preparation

a) Physically: Choose a time and place where you can concentrate, least chance of being distracted or interrupted.
b) Mentally: Learn to temporary leave your burdens aside. Lay it down before God in prayer. Focus back on Him.
c) Emotionally: Take some time to calm down. Prayer, singing praises, etc. are effective in emotional preparation.
d) Spiritual: Ask Holy Spirit to guide you in understanding God's message.

Basic tool you need is a suitable Bible. Study Bible, Life Application Bible, etc. are helpful in knowing more background and understanding the message. A spiritual journal will be useful for taking down your thoughts or questions, your prayers and His instructions. You may also consider having hymnals, songs book, etc.

2. Bible Study

a) Observation:
· What the passage says?
· To avoid taking the verses out of context, read the verses before and after.
· Do some research into the background, history, culture.
· Have a reading plan or follow a quiet time material. Avoid picking a verse randomly.
b) Interpretation:
· What does it means
· What does it say about God, myself or others
· What does it say about the relationships between the above?
c) Application:
· What should I do about what is revealed in the Bible?
· What does God want me to do?
· Is there a command to follow, a promise to claim, sins to confess, an attitude to change, an example to follow?

3. Closing

a) Pray: give thanks for what you have learnt; commit to His will; pray for others' needs.
b) Write it down in your spiritual journal
c) Action. Apply what you learn. Your faith is shown in your action.

Common Difficulties:

a) Lack of Feeling or Motivation
· Don't be disappointed when there is no strong feeling from devotion. God often change us one step at a time. Even great spiritual leaders like Moses (40 years) and Paul (3 years) took time to mold.
· Counter negative feelings with positive actions: pray, make changes, have variations, seek advice, get a suitable QT material, etc.
b) Lack Concentration
· Refer 1. above
c) Lack Discipline
· If you never plan it in your routine, it will never find time to do it.
· Review your priority. Is QT at the bottom of your priority?
d) Lack Application
· Ask the right questions.
· Refer to 2. b) and c).
· Use Life Application Bible, QT material as guide.

Spiritual Journal

· Writing enhances learning
· Helps to organize your thoughts and make it easier to remember
· Enable evaluation on your spiritual growth
· Your personal resource for helping other people

Why are opinions so extreme when it comes to quiet time?

Hey due to poor response for tmr... i guess it's quite last minute?... we'll change the movie outing to this SUNDAY 1st Jan in the evening (4,5 p.m. etc)

In case some of you don't know and might be wondering... Chronicles of Narnia is written by C.S. Lewis, one of the greatest Christian intellectual of our time. In its thrilling and thought provoking storyline lies, as many perceived, the story of Jesus Christ himself. Thus that's why we're so on abt this outing!! So tell your parents not to worry, we won't be organizing many of such movie outings for all the Matrixes, Finding Nemoes etc etc.... Tell them as this is a Christian based movied, that's why the YF is going to watch together. so pls email me or tag here again or inform your group leader (Jiaxin, Yiu Ming) whether you can make it this Sunday!

halo, just wan to repeat what zhixuan has written, and also to add a few more important pts for sat-sun's program :p

SATURDAY 24/12
2pm SHARP at FAIRFIELD auditorium.
Attire: UB4 t-shirt, blue jeans and footwear(no slippers or sandals)
2pm warm up and run through
3pm Final rehearsal
5pm prayer
6pm dinner

After the service has ended, we'll go carolling around the dover/telok blangah neighbourhood. Through carolling around the neighbourhood, we hope to bring the peace, love and joy that Christ has brought with his birth, to the people.

You're encouraged to spend sat night at student centre, bcos the carolling will end at ard 12am/1am at telok blangah. We'll head for FAIRFIELD again the next day for the 11am Christmas service...

So that's the summary of the programme in short. Oh ya, do invite your friends to join us if they are interested in this Christmas-Carol Fun night!

Things to bring if u're staying overnight...
1. Toiletries
2. 2 sets of clothes. (1 to sleep in and the second for Service)
3. Sleeping bag
4. Ezlink card and money for dinner/supper/breakfast
5. Bible

meanwhile, keep the entire program in ur prayers as well:
- pray for God's presence to fill our hearts in all that we do
- pray for God to touch the people's hearts
- pray for smooth running of the programs
- pray for the children's evangelistic program that's happening simultaneously that night
